If you are like every other person in the world just trying to survive during these crazy economic times, looking for new ways to make a little extra money every week has become an essential part of living. Smart Savings Guide focuses on ways to save money through discounts and free offers, but with the growing need of so many we have located several reputable companies that offer opportunities to make extra money online. These companies offer easy and sometimes fun ways to put some extra change in your pocket. They are not offering home based employment and do not claim to have available work at home jobs. They do offer compensation for doing simple tasks such as taking surveys, joining websites, trying samples, reading emails and referring others.

SSG Report: There are many work at home scams floating around the internet. You must do your research in order to better prepare yourself for locating legitimate work at home jobs. Being able to work at home is a wonderful benefit that many companies are starting to utilize. No legitimate employer will ask you to pay for employment.

Home businesses will generally charge fees to become associated with them. Home based businesses do not offer work at home employment and do not offer set steady income. If you do not have a steady source of income it is in our opinion to stay clear of home based business opportunities.

Legitimate work at home jobs can be located through several sources. Online career sites such as Monster and Career Builder have work at home job opportunities. It takes a good amount of leg work to locate the legitimate work at home jobs on these free sites, but there are some jobs available especially for skilled workers. Another source for locating jobs is through a paid work at home directory. These directories take the leg work out of finding actual jobs, but they charge a fee for their services.

Beware of anyone claiming to to be offering hourly pay or employment once you pay a fee. If something is to good to be true it general is!

Home Based Service Reps

May 3rd, 2010 by admin No comments »

Did you know that the customer service rep that you may be talking to is actually working from home? More and more companies are hiring home based employees to field phone calls and respond to customer emails. These work at home employees are trained to handle responsibilities that were previously performed only on site. Companies like every one’s favorite book store and the number one home improvement store are finding the benefits of utilizing  home based customer service reps. In many cases the customer service rep is actually a contracted employee which means that the hiring company can save on the benefit costs, taxes and operating expenses for that contracted employee. Now, lack of benefits sounds bad for the employee, but contracted work at home workers gain in other areas such as setting there own hours, being able to deduct expenses on taxes and the freedom to work for more than one company. So unlike contracted employees, paid hourly employees may have benefits and reliable set hours, but also have to answer to a boss. Keep in mind though, if a contracted employee doesn’t keep the hours promised or fails to perform at a set standard than they to can be at the mercy of the company. The individuals hourly pay completely depends on the company, responsibilities, experience and current demand. Hourly pay can be as low as minimum wage and go as high as sixteen dollars per hour. Currently there are more employees looking for work than work available. As more companies utilize home based work at home employees the tables will slowly turn in favor of the employee. With the current economic situation it may be years before the tables actually turn.

Why Can’t I

April 30th, 2010 by admin No comments »

Working at home is a benefit not a right. Most people can’t work at home because of one or more of the following factors. Number one, lack of education. Many work at home employers want people who are educated. If you haven’t attended college your chance of landing a work at home career are very slim. Number two, lack of experience. Experience and education go hand in hand. If you don’t have experience many employers will pass your application right by. Number three, lack of available jobs. Working at home is still a new concept. That means that there are few jobs with many applicants. Especially in this economy where the jobless rate is so high, there are many people sitting at home trying to get the same job you are interested in. Things to do. Increase your education, make your application stand out and/or be persistent.

Finding a Work at Home Job

April 30th, 2010 by admin No comments »

Finding a work at home job can be very tricky. The first step is to determine what type of job you are looking for. After determining what type of  work at home job you want, you need to determine if you are qualified for that type of job. For example, many individuals are looking to work at home as a medical transcriptions. These are skilled positions. It is highly unlikely that any company or business will hire someone with out training and experience. So after deciding on a work at home job and meeting the requirements of that position it is now time to start your search. The three best places to look are in no certain order – monster, career building and yahoo hot jobs. Though these are all great sites for looking work at home jobs, beware the scams. Many advertisers use these reputable sites to take advantage of unsuspecting job hunters. Remember, if someone is asking for some type of payment or ask for your credit card, run don’t walk away. Also, just keep in mind if it sounds to good to be true it normally is. So, after entering the job site type in different key words to initiate your search. Work at home, work at home job, work from home and home office are just a few to start off with. Keep an eye on the length of time the ad has been up, legitimate work at home jobs go quickly so ones that have been up for a while are probably expired, filled or undesirable. Knowing that work at home jobs fill quickly is best to set a routine of checking during the morning hours and at night. If you find something that fits the bill jump on it, don’t wait.

Traveling in Circles

Working at home and running a home based business are two different beasts. If you are employed by a company that allows you to work at home then consider yourself one of the lucky ones. The few work at home jobs available are generally for the well educated or skilled workers. Yes, there are some work at home customer service rep jobs but the competition is intense. A true work at home job is one where an employer pays you to work for them. These are hourly paid positions or salary based. Other work at home jobs that involve freelance or commission based are really no better than running your own business. Home based business are very risky. You put out your own funds and time with absolutely no knowledge of whether or not you will make a single penny. Most home based businesses fail. That is just the reality of it. If you don’t have a regular steady source of income do not start a home based business. You can’t feed your family on “what ifs” or uncertainties.
